SIM Spotlight: Nana Yaw Agyeman

VP of Product and Platform Operations at iCapital Network and Founder and CEO of AudioMe
Some leaders build products. Others build teams. A rare few build entirely new ways of thinking.
For Nana Yaw Agyeman, leadership begins with curiosity. It is a trait that has shaped his journey from technology executive to entrepreneur, mentor, and founder. Today, he serves as Vice President of Product and Platform Operations at iCapital Network while simultaneously building AudioMe, a venture focused on reimagining how people experience books and stories. Across both roles, a common thread emerges: a commitment to understanding how systems work and how they can work better.
Background & Motivation
At my core, I am a problem solver.
I have always been fascinated by how things work, not just on the surface but underneath. As a kid, I was captivated by simple things, but it was the complex ones that truly intrigued me. I had a burning desire to understand everything around me. When something did not make sense, I had to figure it out. And when something broke, I had to fix it or find a better way.
That mindset never left.
Over time, I developed a love for patterns. I found myself not just solving problems but anticipating them. I started noticing details others missed. The slight nuances in behavior. The rhythms in systems. The moments where something felt off but revealed a deeper truth.
That is why I love people watching. There is so much communication in what is unsaid. The way someone fidgets when they are unsure. The pause before a lie. The shift in posture when a thought clicks. Those small moments are data points to me. They tell a story.
Technology became my canvas for exploring those patterns. Leadership became the lens through which I could help others see them. The way the world works is my first love. Figuring out how to shift perspectives and improve what is possible is my second.
I do not just want to understand the world. I want to help reshape how we move through it.
Influence & Mentorship
My path has been shaped by a wide range of influences, each offering a powerful lesson that helped form how I think, lead, and move through the world.
Kobe Bryant was my first blueprint. He embodied resilience, intensity, and relentless work ethic. His mindset taught me that enough is never enough. There is always room to grow, always another level to reach.
Kanye West taught me the value of individuality and confidence in vision. He showed me that your ideas may not be for everyone to understand, but they still matter deeply if they are yours to carry forward.
Alexander the Great revealed both the power and risk of ambition. His story taught me not to simply exist, but to live with the intention of leaving something behind.
Dr. Marlon Gray, CEO of Empower U, made success tangible. Through his mentorship, I learned discipline, patience, and strategic thinking. He taught me I did not need to invent the wheel. I simply needed to make it roll differently.
Together, these influences helped shape a mindset rooted in excellence, creativity, ambition, and focus.
Building at Scale
As Vice President of Product and Platform Operations at iCapital Network, I help lead one of the most important missions in modern finance.
I focus on building confidence in retirement products and the carriers who offer them. I manage platform operations for the annuity division, supporting more than 35 carriers and over 700 products. My work spans backend infrastructure, advisor experience, compliance alignment, and enterprise readiness.
The impact extends beyond product launches. It is about strengthening trust across the financial ecosystem.
The defining moment came when I realized I was standing at the intersection of innovation and legacy. I understood that I was helping shape the future of retirement finance, and that responsibility continues to drive me every day.
As Founder and CEO of AudioMe, my focus shifts from financial literacy to storytelling and access.
AudioMe is a digital platform that reimagines how people experience books. Through AI-generated voice libraries, real-time translation, community engagement tools, and interactive listening experiences, we are building a storytelling ecosystem for the modern world.
We are increasing accessibility for readers with disabilities. We are globalizing the audiobook experience for non-English speakers. We are creating new opportunities for authors to monetize and share their work.
AudioMe is not just a product. It is a movement.
We are shaping how the world listens. We are giving voice to stories that might never have been heard.
Leadership Evolution
My leadership style has evolved from execution-focused to vision-driven.
Early in my career, I led by doing. I stayed close to the work and pushed for results through effort and precision.
As my responsibilities expanded, I realized leadership is about direction. It is about building systems, creating culture, and establishing clarity amid complexity.
Today, I lead with alignment and scale in mind. I listen more. I empower others to lead. I connect decisions to the bigger picture and communicate the why as clearly as the what.
I still care deeply about excellence. I simply measure it differently now.
Leadership for me is no longer about being in control. It is about creating momentum, removing friction, and building people.
Team & Culture
High-performing teams are built on trust, clarity, and shared accountability.
I build teams around three principles: role clarity, autonomy, and communication.
Everyone should know what they are responsible for and how their work connects to the broader mission. People need space to lead. Expectations should be clear, feedback should be consistent, and success should be shared.
I want my teams to think critically. I want them to challenge assumptions, ask better questions, and make decisions like owners.
Great teams are not built through control.
They are built through vision, accountability, and trust.
Reflection & Advice
Be more selfish.
Not in the way people warn you about. Be selfish with your time, your energy, and your vision.
Protect what you are building.
Trust nothing at face value. Verify everything. Credentials do not mean capability. Charm does not mean commitment.
Your instincts are not a weakness. They are your compass.
And finally, stop shrinking. You are not too ambitious. You are not too intense. You are not too much.
You may simply be in the wrong environment.
Move.
Why SIM
What drew me to SIM NY Metro was the intention behind the network.
This is not just a collection of titles. It is a community of thinkers, builders, and decision-makers who care about impact.
From my first interaction, I met people who were willing to help, connect, and contribute without pretense. That is rare.
I joined SIM because I wanted a place where leadership, innovation, mentorship, entrepreneurship, and community could coexist.
I am not here for surface-level networking.
I am here for real conversations. I am here to learn from people who have built systems I respect and to contribute to a community that values integrity, innovation, and service.
The best technology leaders often share a common trait: they remain students of people. Throughout this conversation, Nana returns repeatedly to themes of curiosity, pattern recognition, and human connection. Whether leading large-scale financial platforms, building an AI-powered startup, mentoring future technologists, or writing poetry, his focus remains remarkably consistent.
Build with purpose. Learn relentlessly. Stay curious about how the world works. Then leave it better than you found it.
That mindset embodies the spirit of SIM NY Metro and the leaders who continue to shape its community.
